私の欧米人の大切な親友の一人であるデンマーク オールボー大学
ステファン・ペターセン教授から私のメールに対する返信が来ましたので

彼は、デンマーク王室の顧問Scientistで2003年にデンマーク王室が
アンデルセンの生誕２００年（？）の記念として日本を訪問した際に
随行して、デンマークの科学技術紹介のセミナーを行いました。
ちょうどそのセミナーに私も招かれていて彼と名刺交換をした際に
彼から「日本の科学技術を紹介してほしい」と言われて、日本の先端技術
に関して全日空ホテルの会議室で彼に一対一で説明をしたことが縁で
子供の写真を交換したり、日本の誇るべき思想である禅の入門書
鈴木大拙著 禅学への道（英訳名「An Introduction to Zen Buddhism」）
を送って意見交換をしたりして親しくさせていただいている方です。
彼は、デンマーク王室の顧問Scientistですが、私のようなものでもこのような
付き合いができ、私のことをこれほどまでに理解してくれています。彼に会ったのは
一回だけです。一期一会とは、このようなことを言うのかもしれませんが？
彼の科学技術に対する姿勢や国を思う気持ちはすばらしく、また私が追及している「人間とは？」
という命題を彼も常に追及しています。
このような関係を今の日本人同士が築けるかどうか？というとなかなか難しい
のではないか？と思います。
現在の日本人がなぜこのようになったのか？私のNEC在職中の終わりのほうの
５～６年は信じられないくらい悲惨なものでしたし、北九州学術研究都市でも
「私利私欲の塊のような人」が多いので、彼らをおさえるのに相当の神経を使います。
（もちろん、欧米にもどうしようもない人はいくらでもいるとは思いますが）
ただ倉高の後輩の川原君もスーダンの過酷な状況の中で、がんばってくれています。
１１月に彼の都合がつけば、会って話ができるのを楽しみにしています。

It was good hearing from you again – and please excuse me for being very slow in responding.
I am very happy for you that you are doing well in your new job – it must be good for both you and your family
I myself have been very, very busy mostly with BioNanophotonics. Right now I am in China, where I attend the ‘International Symposium on Biophotonics, Nanophotonics and Metamaterials’. I will speak 2 days from now, I am also a session chairman and I invited to participate in an opening ceremony for a new center here in Hangzhou. Right now I am suffering from jetlag – but it will be over when I have to go home again.
A recent progress here has been that we are now able to use proteins as ‘ink’ in a high resolution printing process. The small image ‘bnp_logo_3DHot.jpg’ illustrates this – the image is 1 mm from edge to edge, and the estimated resolution is around 15 micrometer.
I have enclosed an image that I am fairly sure you will like. I took the picture this summer at the ocean side of a small Danish Island (Bornholm). Looking at the image, several things strikes me – First the tranquillity of the image, it is very nice to look at – secondly the seed will not give rise to new life before it unites with water – and yet the seed cannot do that because it is beautifully decorated with the white hairy ornaments. So somehow it reminds me about human life – humans spend a large amount of energy decorating themselves with cloths, jewellery, and other signatures of success and position. Yet it is probably also true that all such decorations keeps humans from finding harmony and a deeper meaning in life.

Dear Steffen,
This is Katsunobu.
I attended "The European Solid State Device Conference"
which was held in Montreux of Switzerland.
Montreux is very splendid city.
It was very happy that I met a lot of European friends
and I had much discussion with world level experts.
I promoted our "Wet Lithography Technology" to a lot of experts.
The price of lithography equipment is now over 3 billion per 1 equipment.
If this situation would be continued, the semiconductor industry would be destroied.
A lot of experts is interested in our technology.
I am expecting good responses.
